THE OTTER PLUSH REPLICATION PROJECT

To explore iteration with an object which holds a lot of staying power for me within an obsessive topic I decided to take one of my otter plushes and learn a breadth of material processes by attempting to replicate him through material focused iteration. The way the project is structured allows me to focus more on the material processes as the subject matter persists throughout all iterations. The final installation includes elements from throughout the creation process. Alongside the more traditionally considered final art objects such as a cast bronze or glass sculpture I’ve also included pieces such as a preserved chunk of the cast iron sculpture’s ceramic shell presented as if it is an artifact or fossil or the plush I took apart to make the pattern for the otter fur plush pinned to a board as if it were a bug specimen or stretched animal hide. I would like for the viewer to feel both my obsession with the object itself but also the process through the exhibition of elements of the process not typically shown in a final installation.
